On March 16, the Federal Highway Administration announced that the National Scenic Byways Program 2022 Grants and Technical Assistance Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is now available.
In this grant cycle, $22 million will be awarded: the $16 million allocated through the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, and the additional $6 million allocated through the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, enacted March 15, 2022. Scenic America is proud of the leading role we played in securing this funding–the first dedicated funding for byways in nine years.
Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a letter of intent form to scenicbyways@dot.gov by Monday, April 11 (deadline extended on March 28). All applications must be submitted by June 20, 2022.
More application details are available on the FHWA website.
The FHWA’s Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty will also host two webinars, one for FHWA division offices and federal lands on Monday, March 28, and one for applicants and the general public on Thursday, March 31. Registration is available via this link.
As noted in the FHWA NOFO announcement:
“Under 23 U.S.C. 162(b), grants and technical assistance are to be made available to States or Indian Tribes to (a) implement eligible projects on highways designated as National Scenic Byways or All-American Roads (America’s Byways®), State scenic byways, or Indian Tribe scenic byways; and (b) plan, design, and develop a State or Indian Tribe scenic byway program.”
