Scenic America is remembering one of our founders, Marion Fuller Brown, who passed away recently at the age of 94, at her beloved home on Ram’s Head Farm in York, Maine.

Brown was the driving force behind the passage of a 1977 law that led to the elimination of billboards in Maine.  The last billboard in the state came down in 1984.

She went on to help found the Coalition for Scenic Beauty, which was later renamed Scenic America.

“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Marion Fuller Brown for her visionary leadership in protecting the landscapes not just in Maine, but around the country,” said Mary Tracy, president of Scenic America.
