As we carry out our important mission of preserving and enhancing our nation’s visual character and scenic beauty, we acknowledge the nearly 600 Native tribes who lived and worked on these lands for centuries before European colonists arrived. We honor their legacy and embrace their tradition of responsible stewardship of the Earth and its resources. In various aspects of our work, we amplify the voices of the people and places that continue to tell their stories.
Scenic America is proud to collaborate with tribal nations, whether in cultivating scenic byways, preserving open spaces, promoting responsible development, or ensuring equitable access to renewable energy.
Where appropriate, our website and other communications collateral will call attention to the Native populations who came before us. We carry out our mission from our headquarters in Washington, DC, where the Anacostans (Nacotchtank), Piscataway, and Pamunkey peoples once thrived.
We welcome all feedback as we continue to expand on this important aspect of our work.
