April, 1984: Townsburg and Villageville, two scenic towns, have grown slowly for the better part of a century. But this month both are featured in Place Magazine's 10 Best Burgs list, and people are already lining up to move in.

August, 1987: Townsburg and Villageville have both welcomed many new residents. Townsburg has allowed developers to build wherever and however they like. Villageville, meanwhile, has required development to meet certain design standards that maintain the character of the town as well as placing importance on maintaining parks, sidewalks and public spaces.





March, 1995

March, 1995: A billboard company approaches both towns with a desire to place roadside billboards along a stretch of the Townsburg-Villageville Highway. Townsburg lets the signs go up but Villageville declines in favor of protecting community character.





June, 2003

June, 2003: Both Townsburg and Villageville have been awarded grants to use for developing publicly owned plots of land. While Townsburg decided to pave open space to create more parking, Villageville town leaders decided to add more parkland, public space and bike paths.





July, 2007

July, 2007: A new developer has convinced Townsburg to allow construction of a new commercial development downtown with no sign laws or design review. Villageville has finished a downtown revitalization of its own: new street lamps, underground power lines, sidewalk trees, and free public wifi.
